Wicked – Omomo Tea Shoppe

On December 26th, my family decided to take a trek out into the rain for some boba from Omomo. I’m not a fan of leaving the house to go into the rain unless I absolutely need to, but my sister really wanted boba, and my family convinced me I would enter the car through the garage and didn’t have to leave. So, it was a family excursion to Omomo.

Omomo was doing a seasonal ube series, including this Wicked drink! I like ube, and taro by extension, but it’s typically not my go-to off of a boba menu. That said, I can’t pass up a seasonal drink, and Omomo usually has taro paste on the menu, but not ube. Out of the three choices, the Wicked with matcha was the most appealing.

The matcha in the drink was nice, as Omomo always uses good matcha. The ube paste had a creamy potato-y texture, though with all the matcha I can’t really taste the ube flavor. Boba was chewy, and the drink was lukewarm, to be expected from a no-ice drink, but typically, Omomo’s no-ice drinks are at least cool to the touch. After I had finished most of the drink though, it was mostly ube paste left, and that was plenty flavorful with a distinct ube flavor. The root vegetable had a natural sweetness, earthiness, and yam-iness to it, and tasted like a richer taro. I learned ube just doesn’t dissolve easily, and matcha easily overpowers flavors like ube.
