Special Boba Milk Tea – BenGong’s Tea

Happy New Year! Today was mostly a chill day after going to sleep past midnight, and I didn’t really have any plans. I assumed most stuff would be closed today, but you know what’s not closed, big corporations, yay! Specifically, I had been meaning to go to Target to buy snacks to take back to Japan, and it made a great excuse to go try out BenGong’s that replaced the old Cherubic Tea. Rip Cherubic. Luckily, Yelp said they were open today. Huzzah Chinese businesses!

Their menu is relatively big, with some basic drinks, some fancy-sounding drinks, and some interesting ones, but I decided to go for their namesake one, at least in Chinese. The English name is just “Special Milk Tea”, but trying a new place out means you gotta try their specialty. Some of the other ones sounded a bit too adventurous for me, and plus, this was in the section with drinks that came with boba.

As for the drink, it was good! A classic black milk tea, with a slightly more watery than cream texture, but with great flavor, slightly on the milky side. The boba was chewy, but also slightly small, yet the straw hole was huge. It had a very strong brown sugar flavor to it though. I finished the boba itself real fast, but that could be due to a variety of factors.

Details: Special Boba Milk Tea; half sugar; no ice; from BenGong’s Tea (Irvine)
