My dad needed to go to Trader Joe’s again today (even though we went yesterday, ha!), so we picked the one next to Omomo, because my mom really prefers Omomo over One Zo (where the other Trader Joe’s is). Man, it’s actually been a while since I’ve had a drink from Omomo, and I’ve been receiving pictures from my family of them getting Omomo drinks. Now, I finally get it again…
I was wondering what I should get today, but as usual, I’m still feeling a milk tea drink. I was browsing the selections, as well as thinking about what I’ve had already, and was deciding between a Jasmine, Osmanthus Oolong, or maybe a matcha drink. I kind of wanted to try something new just to have something to write about too, but there wasn’t a milky drink I haven’t tried yet that I’m interested in…then I remembered there were a lot of reviews that liked the Tiramisu foam on Matcha drinks. I always thought about that as a weird combination, but since I really like their Matcha Cortado, I also figured it might be time to finally try out the famed Tiramisu foam so many places have. Starting with Omomo, I guess.
First, I tried to tear off a little but of the lid to try the foam by itself, since I have never had a tiramisu foam before. Surprisingly/Unsurprisingly, it really does taste like Tiramisu as a cream. It’s lighter than a cream, but not as light as what I would expect a foam to be like. It’s pretty sweet, which is nice to balance out the coffee flavor of the foam. I’m not a coffee person, but I like tiramisu flavored things, so I did appreciate the taste of the foam itself.
Anyway, as my straw went down the drink, I did get a sip of pure matcha flavor, so at the very least I still know they’re using real matcha, and then finally got a sip of the milk on the bottom. Then I mixed it as best I could with the straw to get the matcha mixed in, though I don’t know how much the foam got mixed in with the rest of the drink. Most of my sips mainly taste of matcha or the base Matcha Cortado drink, but I do feel like I sometimes get a little of the tiramisu foam taste. That’s probably on me for not shaking it up, but I don’t entirely mind. I can sip the foam when I want from the top, and drink my boba from the bottom, ha!. The thought of tiramisu and matcha still sounds weird to me in theory, but then again there are drinks that mix matcha and coffee, so I guess the combination isn’t that exotic at this point.
Boba’s good today! Very chewy and bouncy, and a little sweet flavor. I don’t really care too much about it being super flavorful today because the drink itself already has a lot of flavor.
Now, would I get the foam again? I don’t hate it, so maybe. Does it taste good? Yes. But I don’t think it adds anything significant to the drink, at least this one. I’d probably order it if I was really feeling it for some reason, maybe adventurous, or if I wanted to compare different shops’ tiramisu foams, but otherwise, it probably won’t make my go-to list or must-order list.
