Yesterday my dad flew into Sapporo to visit me! He had business in Tokyo, and while he was at it, came to Hokkaido to hang out and help me take some things home <3. We had a great time eating meals, and it was good to see him again (after a short period, ha!). After seeing him off at the train station, I hung around Sapporo myself, and right before getting on the bus, grabbed some boba from Tsutsumiya. The last time I tried their boba was over a year ago, and because their options are limited and don’t change, it’s a good go-to if there are no new seasonals.
Today I went for the kagaboucha, which is the second of three milk teas on their menu. It’s another tea flavor, but I have no idea what it was. Apparently, it’s a type of japanese sencha, and a traditional tea from Ishikawa prefecture, which makes it pretty unique. I did notice that the English menu skips this entirely and calls it a “hojicha”, and the tieguanyin just an oolong.
It’s a very roasty milk tea, and I can see why they call this a hojicha. Is any roasted tea automatically a hojicha? It’s a little more roasty than a typical one I think though, kind of in the middle of a hojicha and a roasted oolong. Boba is good, nice and chewy and a bit of flavor.
