I come to Japan and move in to the rural countryside so you might think I’m dead for a while…well I have some content that still needs to be written and published, and also, you just gotta do what you gotta do to adapt the blog you know? Now boba might be hard to come across in the Japanese countryside and you’d be right…someday I’ll get back to a bigger city which hopefully has boba (I know big urban cities in Japan definitely do, the question is if there are any close by…), but there’s also stuff to try. Now spoiler alert, there’s “boba” at convenience stores (they’re everywhere!) and I’ve had one before, and sure it wasn’t real boba, and I’d probably not get it normally even if I was craving boba, but since it’s not on the blog, I’ll get one just for the blog and write a review of the fake convenience store boba.
But for now, hey, here’s a boba-topic cousin for you: milk tea.
Ok sure, it’s not boba, and if you’re mad it’s not boba, then feel free to leave. Honestly drink-wise, I was just going to review the fake convenience store boba and see what other boba I can find here other than the other content I need to write…but hey, the other day, I stopped by a vending machine and bought a milk tea. I actually was going for an electrolyte drink because I’ve been sweating like crazy and I feel like I’m not getting enough water even though I’ve been drinking like crazy, but this particular vending machine I was at didn’t have the brand I wanted. I was standing there, and instead of just leaving, for whatever reason I wanted to still get something, so I got a milk tea. And since it was tea, I was going to save it for some morning, probably as part of breakfast at that.
As a side note, the other day I bought a tea-flavored soy milk to drink as part of breakfast. The tea flavoring in it was the same two Japanese characters that you’ll see in the milk tea picture below. Is that a milk tea? Does that belong here too if I’m including royal milk tea? Um, well, technically they’re similar, yes…with the same tea combined with milk, but this is my blog and I’m going off of a technicality. That is tea-flavored soy milk. This is a milk tea, and strictly advertised as such. So that’s the wonky reasoning you’re going to get. In case you’re curious, the soy milk tasted pretty good. 10/10 would buy again.
Also, you may be wondering, is the genre of blog going to loosen? Eh. I’m not going to start doing pure tea reviews here, and while yes boba also comes in just tea, the standard is a boba milk tea. We’ll see how I feel later on, but again, the protocol for now is boba related products.
Anyway, back to this drink “review”. Finally!
It’s nice and refreshing. I know it doesn’t help, and it’s kind of a no-brainer, but the tea flavor tastes exactly like the tea soymilk. Go figure. It’s the kind of herbal-y black tea-ish flavor, mixed with a bit of sweetness and some creamy milk flavor. The drink itself isn’t creamy at all, and has a decent consistency. Overall not bad, might get it again if I really wanted it.
