On August 5, I explored a bit of the Izu area in Shizuoka! The area was cute and charming, with some nice views and cafes, without the hustle and bustle of normal tourist areas. Miraculously, I found a boba shop in this little countryside town!
Normally people associate matcha with Kyoto, but Shizuoka is also a big producer of tea, and by extension, matcha. Once I saw a matcha option on the menu, I knew I had to get it. The menu says it comes with a bit of sugar, which is fine to sweeten it up. I will say, the cup is quite tiny, and you can’t adjust ice or sugar like a normal boba shop.
As for the drink, it was a rich, creamy, solid matcha latte. The matcha part was on point, and to me, that was the main part (as we were in rural Japan). The boba was on the softer side, but sweet with its own flavor. While the boba wasn’t amazing, I’d go back to the cafe if I were ever in the area again, try another drink, and chill in the couch space again with some friends.
