Tapioca Matcha Milk (タピオカ抹茶ミルク) – Sahanji

On July 23rd, I arrived in Beppu, Oita! (Yes, this post is a week late, I’m getting to them). I was fully not expecting proper boba in Beppu, and the only place I found boba was this one matcha shop in a mall. With no other option, no harm in trying it at least.

There were quite a few options on the menu for boba, including a “seasonal” chocolate mint boba. Japan seems to be doing this recently, and I can only think of the Ice Cream song that went viral. Anyway, I opted for the matcha because the shop was advertising a special type of “tenku” matcha from Shizuoka. The drink came out with boba on the bottom, milk, and a matcha foam on top of the ice.

After mixing in the drink, I took a sip…and the drink blew my expectations out of the water. The matcha latte was thick and creamy, just slightly sweet, and rich in flavor. The boba was big, chewy, just a bit sweet, and absolutely perfect.
