First Flush Matcha with Crepe Milk Tea (一番摘み抹茶サクサククレープ ミルクティー) – Gong Cha

My boyfriend came back from Sapporo yesterday! He spent the weekend in Sapporo, and his way back, I requested a drink if he had time…and he brought me one back! Gong Cha is just starting the new seasonals again, with the annual first flush matcha series overlapping with the shine muscat series.

I had the shine muscat series last year, along with the essentially same yogurt milk tea, so I didn’t need to try it again. Instead, I opted for one in the first flush matcha series, the one with crispy crepe pieces. Yes I’ve had the crepe pieces and the first flush separately, but together, they make a new item. This drink combines the First Flush Matcha Milk Tea with milk foam, and is topped with thinly baked crepe pieces. From experience, the crepe pieces don’t add anything much because they get soggy right away, so I was ok with waiting a couple hours for the drink. I’ll never say no to a matcha, especially a first harvest one (especially with the supposed shortage right now).

It was a good matcha milk tea! Matcha was rich, a nice texture for a milk tea, and not too sweet, not too bitter. Boba was fine, a little chewy, a little stiff, but that was to be expected from 2-hour old drink. The milk foam I mixed in right away, so I didn’t really notice how it impacted the drink, but I’d like to think it made it creamier? I did get some of the soggy crepe bits, and they added a bit of a baked cookie flavor.

It’s supposed to be unavailable for the seal top and dome top only, but somehow my boyfriend asked for the seal and they let him have it sealed. I found that funny.
