Today I met up with a childhood friend for lunch! We ran into each other about a week ago purely coincidentally, and wanted to meet up again to properly catch up. After getting lunch, we obviously had to get boba. We were talking about boba in town, and I mentioned I had yet to try Macu. He recommended it, and we headed over for boba.
Apparently Macu has gone viral in Taiwan recently, and known for fruity drinks and teas. In their milk tea menu, they had the basics, along with tieguanyin and their original golden leaf tea from Taiwan. I was going to get this when I saw the menu because it’s an exclusive, but they did offer samples of this milk tea and a passion fruit green tea. The sample was really good, and even at half sugar. It looked like the latte options were gone from the current menu, but the addition of fresh milk is available. When I asked to add fresh milk, the cashier changed the item from milk tea to latte, so it’s kind of a secret menu I guess?
The drink was pretty good! The tea was light and aromatic, like a cross between a jasmine and a tieguanyin. After a while though, I got the vibe that I was mostly getting milk flavor. While it is what I asked for, I wish the tea was more apparent. The boba was very good, a nice chewy texture and had its own sweet taste.
