Today I went to Sapporo to do some last minute shopping (and eating, ha!). The next time I go out is probably when I leave to go home for the holidays. As I have about two weeks before I go, I really thought about the boba I’d get today, with a dilemma.
Last time I went to The Alley, I got a coupon for 20% my next drink. It literally expires on Christmas, but I’ll be in Sapporo on the 26th. That means I had to use it today, since I don’t plan on going out next week. Meanwhile, Gong Cha’s seasonal menu usually lasts about a month, and the current one came out on November 14th. I still had the chocolate one to try, and I was unsure if it would still be around on the 26th. After much thinking, I tentatively went with order both drinks, but save the The Alley one for later in the week to reheat.
Well, I went to order my The Alley drink, but right when I was at the register they ran out of both normal and brown sugar boba. I had time and was willing to wait, but the cashier said she couldn’t give me a wait time estimate. So I left without using my coupon and destiny was decided for me.
Anyway, this seasonal actually has two drinks to it (not including the frozen variations). This second one is a chocolate version of the Noel drink this year, which also has amaou jelly, and feuillantine on top. This drink has a chocolate base, which I’m assuming is the same as their normal chocolate drink, but I’m not sure if this contains the amaou strawberry tea,
The drink is very strawberry-chocolate. I think the strawberry flavor mostly comes from the jelly, and I like how the chocolate is just a bit bitter (I got no sweet). It’s a generally unique drink, and I like the flavor combo. Boba’s not bad, with a decent chew to it.
