I’m going home today after spending the weekend in Sapporo! I’m planning on going home with my friend from Otaru, so I’m just taking the bus to Otaru today. Nevertheless, I will get a boba, and for the bus ride home. The Alley also just released their holiday drinks this year, and though I do have one more from their cozy season menu I want to get, I felt to better get a special holiday one sooner in case they run out for some reason.
The holiday drinks are a berry and orange tea, and this festive smoothie. It has a blended milky berry base that includes their Royal No9 tea (the black tea that supposedly tastes like blueberries). There’s a strawberry layer on the bottom, along with strawberry cream on the sides. To top it off, there’s matcha whipped cream, a star shaped chocolate, and jewels acting as the tree’s ornaments. Last year’s drink did the same matcha whip part, but at least the base is new. I’m not sure who thought it was a good idea to make a smoothie and winter seasonal, but I don’t mind. Walking around indoors with winter clothing really warms you up.
The smoothie is good. Overall, it definitely is more of a vague berry smoothie rather than strawberry, which I appreciate because that’s what they advertised. The strawberry puree at the bottom has some pulpy bits, which give an additional texture and real strawberry flavor. The matcha whip started to get mixed in at the end, but it didn’t add too much of a strong flavor to the drink, just a slight matcha creaminess at the end. Despite it being a smoothie, the boba texture remained nice and chewy.
