I’m back in Hokkaido (and Japan!) after a brief trip in the States (but this blog has been lively with that content). Of course, on the way home, I have to grab some boba for the road, and I’m back at Gong Cha to get their seasonal tea as a milk tea.
As I said in my last Japan boba post (also at Gong Cha), Gong Cha’s seasonal drink at the moment is this muscat grape and yogurt drink, the Precious Muscat Milk Tea, something like that. Anyway, last year, this rendition of it was called the Sun Shine Muscat, and they weren’t even creative enough to change some of the ingredients. I kid you not, the main “special” points are the exact same, just renaming it for some reason. Instead, I’m getting the “seasonal” milk tea, which they started doing recently with their seasonal drinks which you can opt for straight or milk tea. They usually don’t really interest me, but this one did. Plus, it’s still grape!
It’s actually a pretty good drink, but more so flavor wise than quality wise (we’re not expecting Orobae quality teas here, and speaking of, Orobae has some hot tea…). It tastes like if you added some of that sweet, vaguely muscat syrup into a somewhat flavorless milk tea base, and voila! I wouldn’t say it’s revolutionary having had the actual muscat drink, but it’s a fun one. Boba is chewy, and a decent texture.
