Ceylon Milk Tea with Brown Sugar Boba – Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

The other day I got an email from Coffee Bean, and I thought it was a normal periodic advertisement email, so I swiped to delete it. It was as it was being deleted that I saw BOBA written in the subject line, immediately undeleted it, and read the email. Turns out, Coffee Bean is hopping on the boba train and adding boba to its menu, along with a matcha strawberry and matcha mango to perfect trying to imitate a boba shop. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend one of my few days’ worth of boba on Coffee Bean boba, but I was actually in the plaza, so my mom and I figured we’d share one and try it out.

The actual options for boba are an iced latte and an iced Ceylon milk tea. Neither of us are coffee people, and only drink milk teas, which made the choice pretty obvious. Seems like you can also add it as a topping to other drinks too.

The drink itself is not bad, but very sweet and brown sugary. A little one note and the tea not very noticeable. The boba is quite sad…it’s kind of hopeful on the outside, but hard and definitely undercooked. This was to be expected though to be honest. I will say, when I first got my drink, I was so impressed by the legitimate boba shop plastic cup and lid. That was on point.
