Taro Milk (タロミルク) – Gong Cha

This weekend was just a chill weekend at home, but my boyfriend went out to Sapporo because his favorite ramen shop had a new limited menu. When he came back, he surprised me with boba!

He bought me a taro milk. I am very thankful for him bringing it back, and it also was a complete surprise. Am I a taro person? No. Do I hate taro? Also no. In fact, I think one of my early boba go-tos was a taro slush. Nowadays, I would not really choose taro for myself as a first choice, but enjoy it every now and then. Theoretically, there shouldn’t be caffeine though, which makes it a great drink to enjoy in the evening.

As for the drink itself, it has a very obvious, fake taro flavor that accompanied the obvious, fake taro bright purple color. That’s not a bad thing, as some people prefer fake taro (like my sister), but I think nowadays I prefer real taro. There’s always a time in place for fake taro though. Anyway, the flavor is mellow, goes well with the creaminess of the drink, and at first I thought it was a bit watered down, but then I realized the drink had no ice to begin with…Boba has the nice texture on the outside, but stiff on the inside. That’s just a byproduct of letting it sit though, which can’t be helped.

It’s also been a while since I had a large from Gong Cha, since the seasonals don’t have large (well, except the new one coming March 14th), and I’ve only been getting the seasonals recently. Wow, large, I thought when I first saw it, ha!
