Milk Tea – Din Tai Fung

It’s my last day in America…as a send-off of sorts, my family decided to get Din Tai Fung for dinner (it was either going to be yesterday or today)! We love everything on their menu, but my mom is also particularly excited about their milk tea. If I’m going to be stuck on a plane for 12 hours in a bit, a bit of caffeine couldn’t hurt…

We always get their black milk tea, which I found out is an Assam tea base. They also have honey milk tea and jasmine tea as other options, but to be honest, this is the only one we’ve tried from them. What’s kind of interesting is that the Taiwan locations don’t have boba milk tea (yes, it’s the heart of boba, but still), and neither do the Japan ones in my experience. Of course, we added our usual modifications, which I was surprised the restaurant online order allowed.

The drink is pretty good! The tea base is strong, but still has that classic milk tea flavor. The boba today though, was kind of hard, with that bit of starchiness in the middle. Unfortunate, because usually their boba is pretty good.

Details: Milk Tea; Assam Black Tea; Half Sugar; No ice; Boba; from Din Tai Fung (Costa Mesa)
