Tapioca Matcha Milk (タピオカ抹茶ミルクオレ) – Shin An Ju

Today’s my second day on my weekend vacation, and after getting up early to eat seafood and then doing some more casual sightseeing, I’m back at Shin An Ju for today’s boba. It’s a bit earlier in the day because, well, I have all day in Sapporo, and I have some other food plans in the evening. I figured I’d just drink my boba while making my way to my next destination, as an afternoon snack, seeing as I had a light lunch. Plus, I had a coupon to use!

Today I’m trying their matcha! The vibes goal is to be that girl sipping on her matcha while minding her business and just doing her thing. A midday matcha pick-me-up.

The drink was pretty good! The matcha itself was more on the “smoky” side of matcha (I don’t think it tastes like grass, but maybe that’s what people would use to describe it). The color was quite obviously a little military green, and it did taste like what Westerners would call culinary grade. It’s not a bad thing, considering it’s coming from a boba shop, and not a matcha store. It actually paired quite well with the milk, and was not too sweet, and not too bitter. Boba was ok, sweet and chewy, but slightly a hard kind of chewy. I feel like it could have used some more cooking time.
