Taiwan’s Most Popular? – Soma Tea & Mocktail

Soma is this kind of bougie milk tea brand that comes from Taiwan. Supposedly they won some kind of award for their teas? They only have a couple locations in America, and I think I’ve been lucky enough to try it. The drinks are pretty good quality, especially their milk teas, and some of their flavor options are pretty unique. I think even as far as Taiwan brands go, it’s also on the bougie side in Taiwan, and that says something, since there’s a boba joint on every other block. I remember seeing a Soma on Google Maps when I made my Taiwan trip in May 2023, but the menu there seemed a bit out of my Chinese reading ability (as expected of a bougie chain, ha!) and didn’t end up going in favor of trying out some actual Taiwan-only brands.

Chain? Yes. I’ve only been to Irvine location.

Drinks Tried: Signature Milk Tea (#2), Golden Milk Tea (#2, #3), Cocoa Milk Tea, Matcha, SOMA Essentia Milk Tea,

Boba: I think their milk teas are more stand out than their boba, but they used to have this really good honey boba that you could actually taste the flavor of the honey. For some reason (I think it was stock?), they stopped producing the honey one and started only offering normal black boba. From then, the boba was pretty normal, nothing too special to write about.

Price: The prices are bougie prices, especially for the drinks that only come in the medium size. You’re paying for the good drink though.

Size: There’s a medium and a large, but only some of the milk teas come in the large. Otherwise, some drinks only come in medium.

Interior: It’s pretty nice, and the inside is a very modern and clean aesthetic.

Wait: Never super long when I went.

Sell Food? Yes. Apparently they sell cookies now. Tea cookies?
