Tapioca Matcha Milk (抹茶ミルク) – Harvest Cafe

Today I went to Kutchan! It’s a bit of a shorter and cheaper bus ride to Otaru or Sapporo, and I had a few food goals there today. To be honest, the only boba I knew about in Kutchan was this place next to the Chinese restaurant I went to today, but I don’t think they’re in business anymore. I even went to the small shack that it’s supposed to be in, and it looked completely empty. It was only when I was on by way back to the bus stop home that I saw on the sign outside of Harvest Cafe that they offer boba. I couldn’t get boba elsewhere today, so I figured, why not? The funny thing is that I thought I researched Harvest Cafe, and wasn’t too interested in checking out their offerings today.

Their menu has a few standard Japanese milky drink options, and I went with matcha. For whatever reason I was thinking about matcha lattes the whole day, considering going to different cafes and getting a matcha latte, ha!

The drink came out with boba, a matcha layer, milk, and ice, which I thought was a bit odd, since usually the matcha would be poured on top of the milk, but I mixed the drink anyway. Upon first sip, I felt the drink itself was very sweet, almost tasting like a sweet milk with a hint of matcha flavor. The drink itself was fine, but occasionally I got some weird crumbly bits. I couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be sugar or weird boba/tapioca crumbs or something.

Ok, so how’s the boba? The first one I had was super soft, but that aside, was a bit sweet and tasted like normal boba. Maybe I adjusted, the ones following were a bit more chewy, with only the slightest chew, but still very soft. It wasn’t the best boba by far, but still not the worst. Maybe I’ll go back?
