Matcha (モチモチ抹茶) – Kocha

I’m taking a mini Obon vacation over the weekend, and so I’m hanging out in Tokyo with my boyfriend. Our Airbnb is in Asakusa, so earlier in the day we hung out in the otaku capital Akihabara, and dropped by for some boba after dinner before crashing at our Airbnb for the night. Honestly, I had a huge dinner, and even though I was planning on getting boba after, for a little bit I almost decided not to. Then I thought about it, decided had room for a small cup, and my boyfriend also had room, so we went to this small boba place I found in Asakusa, Kocha. The google reviews seemed pretty good, and I decided to check it out and have some options beside the Yi Fang.

Originally when I was browsing their menu, I figured the only drink I wanted was their royal milk tea, which can also size up to a pretty decent size. However, as I was feeling pretty full from an all-you-can-eat bbq dinner, I decided I would just get a regular, and looked at the rest of the menu. The matcha only comes in regular size, which I figured would be perfect. However, it wasn’t until after I paid and saw the menu at the register that they have Jasmine milk tea (also available in large!) for a limited time. Now I have to come back for that Jasmine…

Good thing the matcha came with boba so I wouldn’t have to add money for boba. Unfortunately, I couldn’t adjust the sweetness, but I did adjust the ice level to less. Upon first impression, after stirring in the drink, it was pretty sweet, but not overwhelmingly sweet. The matcha flavor was light, but there, kind of like a sweet, basic matcha latte flavor. The boba was really good though! Chewy, but also soft and squishy at the same time, with a pretty strong sweetness to it. Overall, very impressed with the shop, and I’d definitely come back again!
