Today I went to my first pride parade in Otaru! I initially went by myself, but ended up seeing a few friends at the parade and hung out with them earlier in the day. After separating, I went off to go eat on my own, and of course needed boba for the way back. My place of choice is the boba from Mister Donut (which I found out last time has decent boba), since I can now trust it and it’s close to the station. I did notice a shop selling boba on the main shopping street (no idea how that is), and on my shopping at the supermarket, found out it sells frozen instant boba, which piqued my interest. However, I don’t exactly need or want to make boba at home, and don’t really need to have it readily available….
This time, I’m getting their milk tea, which according to my friend, is actually pretty good. Last time they didn’t have it, so I was pretty happy they had it today. I also freaked out for a moment, since I was looking at the drink menu board and didn’t see it. It was also only when I went up and asked and the cashier pointed it out to me on the paper one that I saw it. Phew.
I also totally forgot about potential adjustments and remembered after I got my drink that I saw the ice, but figured it probably wasn’t too worth considering it’s not a boba shop (though I recall they were able to do it last time?). The drink itself is pleasantly nice, and has a more aromatic and tea-ish flavor than normal Japanese milk tea, which all tends to taste the same. You get more of the real herbal-y-ness from it, and somehow it doesn’t taste that watered down, though it’s definitely not creamy or anything. It’s a bit on the sweet side, but probably from the brown sugar (that comes with the boba? It’s in the name of the drink so). The boba is actually good, pretty chewy, and adds a kind of syrupy flavor to the drink. I’d totally get this again, and the price isn’t bad.
