Today I’m hanging out in Sapporo with a few friends, as this weekend is the Sapporo Lilac Festival! I’m getting Gong Cha for the ride home, because there’s a somewhat new / limited edition mango drink right now, and I think next week or so they’re bringing in a new limited drink, some sort of special matcha. I also had a free drink reward on my stamp card, so yay, free drink! After spending a bunch of money on food all day, a free drink feels good on the wallet.
So, this mango drink is weirdly similar and familiar to a previous mango milk tea Gong Cha had a bit ago…That time, Gong Cha claimed that it had jasmine tea in it with mango sauce, but this time the drink supposedly has alishan oolong instead, along with some amanatsu jelly (whatever that means). “Amanatsu” translates to “sweet summer”, and I have no idea how that should taste.
Overall, for a mango milk, it’s pretty good. The drink is milky, and overall has a decent, light mango flavor in every sip. I feel like the jelly is just mango jelly or something, and since it’s all at the bottom, I keep getting pretty mango-forward sips with each sip of jelly. I noticed the jelly was a little sour, not citrus sour, but like natural fruit sour, which added some nice balance to the drink. As expected, I don’t taste the tea, but after coming from Taiwan with real Alishan oolong everywhere, I had no expectations for it here. I of course had to add boba (also free!), and it’s nicely chewy, and just a bit sweet.
