I’m officially in Taiwan for Golden Week! After I met up with my grandma at her house (where I’ll be staying during my trip), I asked her if it was ok to go get boba, and even though apparently my dad didn’t want me too, my grandma indulged me and took me to go get boba at like 9:30 pm Taiwan time (that’d be 10:30 Japan time, but I digress). 50嵐 is actually Wushiland, which I’ve had countless times during my college days (I sound old.), and there’s a branch right across the street from my grandma’s place.
Originally, I figured if we went to another place (that’s right next to Wushiland, go figure), I thought I’d go with a winter melon drink, since that wouldn’t have caffeine. However, Wushiland doesn’t carry winter melon, and so I went with a green milk tea, since apparently Japan can’t get that right. I ordered it all right, and my sweet grandma was concerned I couldn’t and even asked the cashier if he could understand me (I don’t think my Chinese is that bad…ha). I also kind of got a large instinctively, but maybe a medium would have been more logically reasonable. I’m here to eat though and get my fill, so it’s whatever to me.
The drink tastes exactly like how Wushiland from back home tastes like. The green tea flavor is on point, and it’s a perfect creamy but not that creamy texture. At home this would be like $5, but it’s a little under $2 with the conversion rate. Crazy.
I’m pretty sure I ordered “boba”, or “pearl” in Chinese here since boba is not a good word here, and when I first sipped it I got a bunch of small boba. I don’t know if I ordered wrong or something (the label does say pearl though), or if the “boba” at Wushiland is actually called something else, but I ended up with small boba (obviously can’t see it in the pic). I did end up with like 5 regular sized boba mixed in though. From what I could chew, it had a very good bouncy texture though, and I noticed when they were making drinks the boba was actually on the browner side, and not the artificial black color we see at a lot of shops back home.
Details: Green Milk Tea; boba (but actually mini boba??); no ice; half sugar; from 50嵐
