I’m going to Tokyo today! It’s spring break at my schools, which means my sixth graders graduated last week, and the next school year starts in two weeks. I used some of my paid time off to plan a Tokyo trip with a friend, and aligned it with spring break so I wouldn’t have to miss school. The Alley released a new spring seasonal drink series on March 1st called “Rich Milk” with a matcha drink and a strawberry drink, which is supposed to go on until April 9th, and I figured, getting a morning drink while the campaign is going would be good timing to try it out. Plus, it’d make a good start to the trip, and give me a morning drink boost.
Within the new series, I decided to go for the matcha over the strawberry one, because when it comes to those two flavors, I prefer the matcha. I like me a strawberry drink and flavor every now and then, but really I’ll go for a tea or matcha anyday. The drink supposedly contains matcha, white chocolate syrup, and condensed milk. Of course, I have to add boba!
The drink is pretty good! Obviously doesn’t look the exact same as the promo pic since I got no ice, but hey, I’m all about the taste. I do think it tastes a little different than the regular matcha milk, with this one being a little creamier and a little less matcha bitter. I don’t know if it’s just a psychological thing, but it does seem like an upgraded drink. I also liked the shaved white chocolate on top, and it added a nice small crunch and textural change. The boba is a good texture, very chewy, but with no flavor, but I guess that’s what I get for getting the regular one and not the brown sugar.
Also, I guess they already stopped doing the colorful boba?
