The Origin of the Trend? – Tiger Sugar

I have no idea who actually invented brown sugar boba, but nowadays a nickname for the drink is “Tiger” something, because if you drip brown sugar syrup on the edge of the cup it looks like the stripes of a tiger. If you ever see somthing like “Tiger Milk” on a boba menu somewhere, it’s probably just a brown sugar milk.

Tiger Sugar is another Taiwanese boba chain that went internationally famous, being known for obviously brown sugar boba and more recently, their brown sugar boba ice cream popsicles (one of the better ones out there in my opinion). I was pretty happy when they opened a location near me, as I could finally try out another brand that was pretty hyped up. When I did get to try them, I do think their drinks were pretty good, with a good menu selection and variety of teas. It is a tad bit expensive though, but apparently they’re pretty average rated according to general reviews.

Chain? Yes. I’ve been to the Irvine location, but I know they have locations all around the world.

Drinks Tried: Golden Oolong Tea Latte Cream Mousse, Black Sugar Boba Black Tea Latte Cream Mousse,

Boba: Here they’re all about the brown sugar boba. It’s actually pretty good though, with a toasty brown sugar flavor, and a good chewy texture.

Price: I think the basic milk tea options are pretty decently priced, but some of the sizing up and other drinks can get a bit on the pricer end.

Size: The location I go to says there’s a medium and large on their menu, but really whenever I go, it’s just one size: a tall, slender cup. Now that I think about it, either there is no medium size, or I just always default to the large that I forgot it existed.

Interior: The Irvine location is a bit of small, cozy shop, enough to create a line, or have a few people hang out and chill.

Wait: Whenever I go, not usually much of a wait. I heard on the grand opening day there was quite a line though (but that’s because they were doing promotions and giveaways?)!

Sell Food? They sell popcorn and their famous ice cream bars.

Reward System? I don’t think so, but I used to receive 10% off coupons within 10 days when I went.
