To be honest, I thought Boba Guys was a Los Angeles thing until I actually went to San Francisco to visit my boyfriend, and then he told me it was always an SF thing. I’ve always heard of them as the big, trendy, and famous boba chain that had good boba and classic and inventive flavors. If I remember correctly, they did a collab with Inga Lam to make a banana milk flavored drink a while ago, and that’s one of the first times I heard of them. Oh yea, they also published a boba book with recipes, I think. My friend actually bought it!
Like I mentioned, their menu is pretty diverse, and they make sure to specify the brand their tea comes from, just to add to the quality of their teas. Interestingly enough, they also offer a decaf black tea, which I had never seen before as an option at a boba shop before. I really do need to try out their other more interesting flavors.
Chain? Yes. I’ve gotten takeout from one in San Francisco (ha!), and also been to the one in Costa Mesa.
Drinks Tried: Jasmine Green Milk Tea, Tie Guan Yin Oolong,
Boba: The boba does live up to the hype, the perfect amount of sweet and chewiness.
Price: Prices do get kind of up there, though I suppose you are paying for quality and the name brand.
Size: Sizing is pretty good, with a medium and a large size. I’m pretty happy with the amount in the large.
Interior: The Costa Mesa location was pretty cozy, albeit it was kind of like a hole-in-the-wall with outdoor seating. I haven’t been to an actual location in the Bay.
Wait: The one time we Doordashed boba in San Francisco there was an insane wait (like an hour?!) but the Costa Mesa location when I went was pretty empty. Just depends, I guess, like always.
Sell Food? Not sure.
Reward System? Dont’ think so.
