My boyfriend has come to visit! I met up with him in Sapporo right after I got off work, and we got dinner at Sapporo station since it’s right there, and I had a place I wanted to try. Read about that here. I wanted boba if possible, but by the time we finished it was around 8:30, and most of the places I wanted to go in the area close at 9, so it was a bit of a tight call. At first, I tried going to Starbucks because there’s a new holiday frapp, but the one I went to was sold out. Then I tried going to The Alley, but they ran out of boba. My last resort before I gave up was trying one of Matcha Saro’s boba drinks, which I’ve had my eye on for a while. I had a ice cream from there before and it was really good.
At first I was set on getting a latte, because I’m a milk tea girl. I knew I was definitely getting matcha as opposed to Hojicha, since it’s a matcha specialty store. My boyfriend said he might have some of my drink, and since he’s lactose intolerant, I ended up getting the pure matcha tea. Plus, there’s no sugar added, though they did offer me gum syrup, but I figured the boba would have its own sweetness.
The drink was a really good pure matcha! It definitely was a pure matcha tea, with no sweetness to it which was a nice change of pace from the usual sweet drink. The boba was actually pretty good for a non-boba place, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was bigger than any I had recently, and had a pretty good chew to it. Like I predicted, the slight bit of sweetness it had was just right to add to the no sugar matcha drink.
