Alishan Oolong Milk Tea (阿里山ありさん ウーロン ミルクティー) – Gong Cha

Today I made a bus trip to Sapporo! I went with my friend the other day and it was a lot of fun, and today I made the trip myself. I explored a bit, stayed a bit in the station, and of course, now to get boba. I was deciding between Gong Cha or The Alley or even a more Japanese place if it was nearby, but since the Gong Cha is near the terminal I figured it’d be more convenient to get from here. Now to try all their drinks with a new point card I have…but I will try to alternate in the future and try the other places.

They have a limited edition drink right now, a peach jasmine milk tea. Of course since it’s limited I was tempted by that, but it looked a bit expensive…obviously. For whatever reason I felt better about spending more money on a regular milk tea. I like peach flavored things and especially peaches themselves and I trust most of Japan’s flavoring for the most part since they also say they’re using peaches from a specific prefecture, but I wasn’t too sure about a peach milk tea from other experiences. I’m sure the Japan one would have been great (and I’m pretty sure it’s until end of August, so there’s still some time), I ended up preferring a regular milk tea. I went with the Alishan oolong because it sounded good to me at the moment. Large, because I usually do and boba will be a somewhat treat now, less sugar, and they charge for no ice here, and so I got ice. Sad.

The drink is actually pretty good! I hope my boba standards haven’t gone down, or if it’s a Japan thing, but the tea flavor is decent, light and a little weak, but there and floral. The drink is mostly good milk flavor (maybe it’s Hokkaido milk, ha!) so at least it seems like real milk. Boba is pretty good, decently chewy and sweet, a bit smaller than usual but still way better than the local place other day.

And now back to regular programming, with bottled milk teas or bad packaged boba!
