Hong Kong Milk Tea (Oolong) – Arteazen

Today one of my friends is taking the train home for the long weekend, so we had a slightly earlier dinner closer to our place. At first, my driver friend suggested we go to get Happy Lemon from UTC since it’s one of the closer places, but then I thought parking might be an issue so I suggested Ding Tea La Jolla, which is also on the closer side. My friend had completely forgot about it, and my other friend thought it’s be nice to go back to Ding Tea.

However, when I looked up Ding Tea La Jolla, google said it was permanently closed. I went to Yelp, and the listing was still there, but it turns out, it rebranded as Arteazen. Apparently according to the sign in the store, it’s the same management just different rebranding. They’re still in soft opening, so hopefully it’s still good.

I was thinking of getting a unique-ish milk tea, so probably something along the lines of Hokkaido or Okinawa or whatever. I also don’t have to work tomorrow morning, so I don’t have to worry about tea keeping me up to wake up early either. In the end, I don’t think I’ve had a Hong Kong much so I went with that. I was surprised when the cashier asked me for a type of tea, so I chose oolong for the flavor profile for the spice of it.

The drink is pretty good, but definitely oolong flavor heavy. I believe Hong Kong milk tea is traditionally made using condensed milk, but I’m not sure how they make it here. Regardless, I think I do taste a bit of creamy sweetness in the background, but it is mostly oolong flavor forward, which I guess is good since I chose the tea and all. Boba is pretty good, a bouncy chewy and a little sweet.
