My dad asked my mom around 4ish if we wanted a drink from Tea Maru. My hypothesis is that since he would be there to pick up my sister, and my mom was saying earlier how she’d like a drink, maybe those two things combined or something…so I’m getting a drink, and I’m not saying no…although, even though my dad suggested and was the one picking up, I still ended up paying for it because my information auto populated my account, ha!Plus, with the milk and sugar, it makes it a perfect, just-in-time post-workout snack right? That’s totally how it works, protein and carbs.
Anyway, since it’s later in the afternoon, I figured maybe I should get a decaf drink. Which is kind of hard since most of the menu has tea in it, especially in the ones I haven’t had yet. Maybe the Jasmine. won’t be that caffeinated (and I really need to try their Jasmine at some point…), but I figured I’d play it safe, so I went with the Maru Milk today. Yes, it’s essentially a sweet milk, and you probably know my stance on sweet milk drinks by now, and I guess the cheese foam is there to add something, but.that is what I got today…Unfortunately I couldn’t get my usual half sugar, as the online system only allows 75%. I think once I asked in person for my mom, and the guy said past that it would only taste like milk, is their reasoning.
I started by sticking my straw in first instead of shaking, just to taste the cheese foam layer…so at first, all I got really was just plain milk, because the brown sugar mostly settled at the bottom. I mean, it was good milk since it was whole milk, but just milk. Then I tasted their cheese foam, which is not too thick, and relatively salty. It was relatively standard for a cheese foam I think. Brown sugar flavor and boba flavor are both good as well; Tea Maru has such good boba, though I will say I’m not sure if it’s because it’s been sitting in a cold drink for just a little bit, but it’s a lot more on the chewier side today. After mixing it as much as I could with the straw and shaking horizontally, it really just is a sweeter milk. Nothing wrong with that, but yes. At times though, I do get a moment of saltiness from the mixed in cheese foam, which is an interesting change from sweet milk.
