Mango Fluffy Matcha – Tea Maru

Sometime last week I get a text from the system Tea Maru uses for a coupon, with the reason that they hadn’t seen me in a while. It didn’t say what it was, only that it was expiring on January 13. When I sampled input it into their online order system (since it’s valid in store and online order) I found that it was a $5 coupon. That’s pretty good, and almost a free drink. I say almost, since most of the drinks at Tea Maru end up costing a little over that, but still a pretty good coupon nonetheless. At least, I think it’s better than a 10 or 20% off one, but hey, those are still decently good, right?

Plus, today’s a day to (kind of) celebrate! I got an interview for a job I applied for a few months ago, and I knew results would be coming out soon, and was slightly stressed about it, but today, I got good news! Now to ace the interview and get the job would be nice, but for now, I need to wait for more details on the interview…I have work at 3, so I would have preferred not to rush myself, even though there is plenty of time, so big thanks and shoutout to the busy dad for helping me get my drink.

Tea Maru’s menu is pretty interesting, and I’ve been meaning to give their fluffy matcha a shot for a while. I think it’s supposed to be a take on the whole Dalgona Coffee trend a while back, but with Matcha instead. A few of their drinks come with some puree on the bottom, like the classic strawberry, mango, and sweet potato, which is also kind of their thing. I think I’m going to save my matcha strawberry experience for Sunright or a different place, but since a bit ago I tried out a Matcha Latte with some mango puree from MNGO cafe and thought it was pretty good, I figured this version can’t hurt. Plus, to go along with the mango theme, I added mango boba as my boba of choice this time, trying out another flavored boba, so hopefully that’s good.

Ok so when I’m trying out layered drinks for the first time, I like to try each individual ingredient by itself first, which can be a little detrimental when I’m trying to mi everything together, but oh well. Anyway, for the matcha layer, it’s a relatively thick and creamy, sweet matcha cream. The matcha is very flavorful, and I think the fluff itself is probably pre-sweetened, and overall pretty good on it’s own. The milk layer is fine, just milk, ha! I think the bottom is supposed to be a mango puree, but at last for my drink, it’s less of a puree and more a lot of bits of mango. I guess that’s good in that it shows they use real mango, and it’s not overly sweet, as some of the bits are pretty normal not too ripe mango tasting. I don’t mind it, but if you don’t like bits in your drink, maybe don’t get the mango one…I also wasn’t sure if the mango boba was flavored because I put it in what was supposed to be mango puree in the drink, so I tried getting it by itself, and I do think there is some inherent mango flavor in the boba itself. It’s very chewy, and has a great texture, as expected of their boba. Overall, good drink, and very happy with my choice 🙂 Great pre-post work snack too…
