I know a Feng Cha opened a bit close by to my home, but it’s far enough away that I wouldn’t casually venture there unless I put in effort. However, I do know that one opened in San Diego somewhat recently, and I’ve really been meaning to try it out for a while because I’ve seen pictures of their drinks (and cakes!) and heard some good things about this chain. One of my roomies went home for winter break already, so today was just a date with my other roomie. I don’t usually have a strong preference for choosing a place to go for our weekly outings, but today I said I’d request the drink place, so my friend could choose the food place. And so I chose Feng Cha.
I was looking through the menu, and they had some standard milk teas and drinks, some more flavored foams, blended drinks, and other interesting ones. It’s a bit cold right now for a blended drink, and I figured I’d try a milk tea some other time. The Mango Aulait, although just mangoes and milk seemingly, seemed like a good drink, and plus it’s not caffeinated for a late night drink. Also, a good change of pace from milk teas. The cashier did tell me that today they were doing 20% off all drinks with taro, but I’m usually not too into taro even though I can appreciate it, and still went with the Mango Aulait.
The drink is surprisingly good for just being a mango milk drink, ha! It’s definitely made with real mangoes because I could taste and feel mango pieces, and it doesn’t taste like artificial mango, overly sweet or purely mango concentrate flavor. It has a slight bit of tartness of real mango without being sour, which gives it a nice touch. You know what? It basically tastes like mango ice cream, a really balanced one at that. It’s nicely creamy and well textured. The boba is nice, has a good texture, but not that much flavor.
