Moosen Matcha Latte – Chakaa

Today we went out for Korean food after finding out one of my friends now likes to eat kimchi. Then we went to Chaka after not being here for a while. One of my friends also expressed interest in coming back here, and I’ve been meaning to come back too, so here we are. We barely made it too, because according to Google they close at 9 and we walked over from the restaurant we were at at 8:50! Oh, and I was the last one to order because I let my friend go ahead of me, and at first when I ordered my drink, the guy making the drinks told me they just sold out of boba…and I was in a state of momentary shock…but then he somehow made it work by splitting the last two into three or something and said it was all good…at least I get boba today, ha! Though hopefully it wouldn’t be a significant amount of boba missing.

Okay so even though I have yet to try Chakaa’s normal milk teas, I’ve only had their Thai Tea and their Matcha. And I’ve loved both of the drinks so far. Weirdly enough, the past few times I was thinking about going to Chakaa I was thinking about getting the Thai or Matcha. Since I had a Thai Tea recently from Tan-Cha though, I figured I’d go with the Matcha Latte this time, but I swear next time I go to Chakaa I’m getting one of their milk teas…Anyway, in the menu, the drink is spelled as “Moosen” but in the register system it’s “Mossen” so I was a little confused but whatever…it’s already kind of weird they have an Uji matcha and Moosen…

I asked for no ice, and then while making it the guy told me it wouldn’t be possible with no ice and asked if less ice was ok since then the layers wouldn’t be possible. I asked if the drink would be totally impossible, and he just said the matcha would sink to the bottom. I said I was ok with that since I could just mix it…and he was really nice about it and said “just for you” since normally they don’t make it with no ice. When he handed the drink to me he said that it doesn’t normally look like this and I thought that it was really nice of him, even though I don’t really care about the aesthetic but more the taste, ha!

The drink has a really pleasant matcha flavor to it, without being too bitter or overpowering. The matcha flavor is on the lighter side, but I don’t mind because it’s not flavorless, still overall all the flavors in the drink are nicely balanced. I remember the first time I had their matcha a while ago I thought it was powdery, but not this time. The drink itself is smooth, and overall a great matcha latte. The boba is very chewy, slightly on the tough side, maybe because it’s the very end of the day, and has a good initial brown sugar flavor to it too. And, compared to the cup size, it definitely looks like a regular serving of boba!
