Brown Sugar Boba Milk – Hui Wei Kitchen

My family’s been getting some food delivery from Hui Wei Kitchen once in a while these past few months, and their food is pretty good and in decent portion sizes. The problem is that the food is a little overpriced, which seems to be a common complaint when I read other reviews online, so at least we’re not the only ones that feel that way. My mom really just looks out for good deals when it comes to them.

So I guess last time there was a pick-up (on Labor Day I think? or the weekend) they were offering a Brown Sugar Boba drink and the whole point was that it was made freshly homemade by their in house special barista. For whatever reason my mom didn’t get it last time even though she wanted to try it, maybe it was because I didn’t feel strongly about it, since it’s just a brown sugar milk. It was that, or she didn’t want to go get it last time. They were offering the drink again this time for another pick-up and since she had bought something, I think she figured she might as well get the drink too. Apparently another selling point is that it’s 700ml, which I don’t really have a reference for except a water bottle I have, so I guess it’s a lot? Maybe like a decent large at a boba place? Anyway, no choice for the drink, ha!

The first sip I had without the boba was nice. It basically tasted like the brown sugar ice cream bar, which shouldn’t be surprising, ha! It basically is (what I assume to be) whole milk, as the base flavor is pretty basic for a milk (I usually drink nonfat other than boba drinks so I don’t entirely have a baseline for milk I guess), and I could taste the brown sugar flavor. With the milk, it goes really well, as the brown sugar flavor profile tastes a little smoky, so I’m assuming that means it’s good quality brown sugar? The boba itself has a really nice texture, not overly chewy, but doesn’t melt in your mouth either. I thought the boba would have more brown sugar flavor, but once you finish the drink, it doesn’t have too much flavor by itself other than a remnant brown sugar taste. Overall, a pretty good sweet milk drink. Can’t entirely go wrong with that, right? Plus, without any tea, I can safely drink this in the evening and not have to worry too much about my mind staying up…

I knew they would put ice, but my mom thought they wouldn’t since it’s a delivery. I win…they did indeed put ice.
