Matcha Bun with Tapioca Ball – Gimyo Foods

After my basically 15-day boba vacation, I’m currently attempting to do an anti-boba (drink) diet until September…barring other circumstances, like meeting up with a friend for boba. Before my vacation, I recently got in contact with a friend I haven’t talked to in a few years, and I suggested we get boba. Then my vacation happened. I’ll probably meet up with her in the next couple of weeks, but that’s going to be my only exception. Having that much boba is definitely not that good, so this is my way of kind of making up for it. I’m not necessarily going on a strict anti-sugar diet, since I usually eat relatively healthy and in moderation anyway. So that’s what’s happening. I even rejected my mom’s offer when she asked me if I wanted to order A+ this weekend. Wild. I usually never say no to boba.

Last night, my mom offered me to try this Matcha Boba Bun she bought a while ago at 99 Ranch, since she was going to steam a different bun for my sister in the morning anyway. Today’s breakfast is boba buns then. What’s wild is that the packaging says Mocha, but the Chinese says Matcha, and it’s green and very clearly trying to be Matcha. Obviously, no one spell-checked the English version.

The bun itself was ok. It had a custard-y filling, less on the creamy side and more thick, kind of what you’d see in a flaky cookie bun or something. Although it was green, the matcha flavor was not entirely that noticeable, which was shame, since it’s selling itself to be matcha flavored. The boba itself was more on the chewy side, as a comparison to the other bun I tried before that had softer boba, which I also had one this morning. That one at least was filled with boba, but I swear the matcha one I had today only had 3! 3 Pearls total in one small bun. The bun itself was ok, pretty standard bun.
