After discovering Oiio Cafe a year ago after visiting my eye doctor, I’ve been low-key excited to go back and try more drinks. I would be lying if I said the bendy boba straw wasn’t part of the excitement…because it’s kind of unique. Since then, I’ve discovered on the internet it’s not an entirely unique phenomenon, but definitely not common either. Yes, I had my eye doctor appointment this morning, yes I had boba yesterday, but I’ve been looking forward to a drink from Oiio ok? Also, a cold drink on a hot day is always nice. Oh, and this is the first thing I’m consuming today, so boba for brunch I guess.
Man the menu may not be too big, but I’m interested in trying out more of their drinks. What I really dislike about their menu though, is that the names are interesting, but most of the drinks’ names aren’t very descriptive, especially some of the milk teas. If I didn’t look up any information on Yelp, or if I didn’t ask last time what the difference between the House Milk Tea and Ollo Milk Tea, I would not know what these drinks had. At first, I was going to go with one of the Matcha drinks, since there’s a whole matcha section, but once I found out through reading descriptions on Yelp that the Chapman Milk Tea is actually their Jasmine Milk Tea, I figured I’d go with that since I’ve low-key been missing Jasmine recently. Odd name, other than Chapman being nearby. Again, non-descriptive name. Is this Oiio’s secret plot of telling the customer to actually talk to the cashier?
Okay, first of all, my dreams were crushed when I noticed that their straws were plain black…and not bendy. RIP bendy boba straws. RIP uniqueness. I guess some of the branding is gone from the cup itself too now huh…
Anyway, as for the actual drink, I think it’s a good jasmine. It has a nice, decent jasmine/green tea flavor, on the slightly darker/deeper end of jasmine flavor spectrum, but you can still tell it’s a green tea. From what I heard last time about the Ollo vs House milk tea, they might have used brown sugar in this drink? Not entirely sure though.
They open at 10:30 I think, and we got there around 11 and had to wait 20 minutes for boba to be ready. I really wanted boba, so shoutout to my mom and my sister for waiting with me. Today’s boba was ok, very chewy, slightly on the stiffer side, but not much flavor. I remember it having small boba/pearl sized bits last time which made it a unique experience, but the size seems more consistent now, which could be good or bad depending on the person.
