Happy Father’s Day!
It’s mid-June and summer, which means t’is the season for drinks and ice cream! Not a drink today, but actually the first boba ice cream review in a while. This time, matcha flavored! So I haven’t had a drink in a bit, and I figured it’d be nice to treat myself to a boba ice cream bar that has been sitting in our freezer. My mom (kind of) recently picked up this matcha boba one from 99 Ranch, and has been excited for me to try it too. I’ve low-key been putting off trying ice cream because I’ve had drinks sort of frequently and also saving it for a good occasion to post about it, especially because since it’d be the first time I’m trying it, I’d be writing a post. So I think today’s a good day to have some ice cream and treat myself 🙂
I’m pretty sure we have A Chino’s regular brown sugar boba ice cream bar in our freezer somewhere too waiting for me to try and compare, but I just haven’t gotten to trying that one yet…Oh well, guess we’re doing the matcha one today.
For the ice cream itself, it’s very nice matcha flavor. It’s not too sweet, but also not too bitter, and I’m pleasantly surprised at how good the actual ice cream is. The ice cream is a little icy, but still creamy enough and really refreshing. I’m not sure if I can actually taste the brown sugar, and even though I can see some streaks on the side, the flavor probably blends in with the ice cream to make it sweeter. As for the boba, right away I noticed it was in cubes, which was interesting. It’s chewy in a gummy sort of way, and almost jelly-like. I couldn’t taste much flavor from the “boba” itself, but overall when eaten with the ice cream it’s a nice treat and does an ok job of recreating the boba experience.
Alright so we’re 10+ days and counting on not having boba…which is setting a new recent record, ha! This is highly ironic since this it’s been getting really hot lately, so you’d think we still be getting drinks as frequently as we have been…I don’t count this as part of the streak since it’s not a drink 🙂
