Osmanthus Oolong Milk Tea – Ten Ren’s Tea Time

This morning my parents went to Rowland Heights to pick up some food goods, and they brought back drinks with them! I have yet to explore the boba scene in depth there, but I have heard of some good shops around the place. According to Yelp there’s a ton of shops there too for obvious reasons, but today my parents went with Ten Ren, which we’re familiar with since they’re somewhat(?) affiliated with Tea Station and because we’ve been there before.

Usually when I’m at Ten Ren or Tea Station I opt for a milk slushie, or a Milk Ice I think they’re called at Ten Ren. Today I wanted to try a milk tea, though since I don’t go often, and plus since it’s a bit of a drive away, I didn’t think there was a point to getting an icy drink if it was going to melt, especially since today’s a warmer day. After browsing the menu for a bit, I decided to go for the Osmanthus Oolong, since it’s more a unique drink and not many places have it.

Well, it turns out that whoever made my drink or took my mom’s order that they forgot both the boba and to not put ice in my drink, which are both pretty obvious mistakes…It’s a pretty big bummer since boba is pretty much what makes drink unique. Makes me wonder if my drink actually has less sugar, which is the non-noticeable adjustment.

The drink itself tastes really nice, and it’s not too sweet, but most of the time I like to order less sugar for some peace of mind. Aside from the mishaps, the only thing they did get right, the drink itself, is great. A refreshing light, floral, Osmanthus Oolong, with a nice balance with the slight creaminess of the milk tea. At least the drink tastes like it’s made with quality, and I haven’t had an Osmanthus Oolong for a while, and it’s a great change of pace.

Because I still need to live the boba experience, I boiled and finished the rest of the homemade boba that we had in our freezer. The one thing with drinking homemade boba with a regular boba straw is that some of the boba we made were too big to be sucked normally, so occasionally they got stuck. I tried to scoop most of the smaller or regular sized ones into my drink for normal drinking experience and to let my mom and sister have the bigs ones, but some big ones still got in. Oh well.

Details: Osmanthus Oolong Milk Tea; 50% sugar(??); requested no ice but got ice (scooped out); asked for boba but got no boba so substituted with homemade; from Ten Ren’s Tea Time (Rowland Heights)
