It’s almost the new year, and don’t we all hope next year will get better? After a week of not having boba (shocking!) because my mom bought her favorite cake last week, here comes a drink! My dad wanted to go on another Trader Joe’s run with me, so this time we finally went to the Trader Joe’s that he likes, and got One Zo while we’re at it, because it’s in the same plaza. And it’s that time of day for a mid-day snack too! 🙂 Going grocery shopping in general, and Trader Joe’s specifically, it’s pretty hard not to start buying the super appealing looking snacks…which I may or may not have done…but Trader Joe’s has some healthier options so it makes me feel better, ha!
I haven’t been to One Zo in forever, partly because I don’t go that plaza often and in the past my mom has had weird experiences with the milk tea she gets. I was actually kind of excited to go back after a long time to see if my opinion of the place will improve, since I remember the drinks being ok, and the boba ok as well. Trader Joe’s might have been packed, but One Zo was pretty empty!
Today I decided to go for their One Zo Green Milk Tea as kind of a baseline. Even though I’ve been before, it’s going to be the first One Zo post on the blog, so I wanted to start basic, and also, a good green milk can never hurt. And I’m excited to write about the other drinks that I like there and want to try too! Supposedly, it’s a blend of Jasmine tea and green tea. Pro tip: for boba places that don’t put descriptions on their main menu, try looking at a delivery service, like DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmates, etc. Usually those apps contain more detailed descriptions for whatever reason, and it really helps me when places have vague or super fancy names. I got today’s from Postmates.
The One Zo Green Milk Tea is pretty solid milk tea. One Zo also differentiates between lattes and milk teas, but the milk tea is still pretty creamy without feeling too heavy. There definitely is a hint of Jasmine fragrance in there, but like the description, it isn’t completely Jasmine, but not also completely a green milk tea either. If you’re looking for a not overwhelming Jasmine milk tea, then I’d recommend this!
I got their honey boba today to be basic, and it’s better than I remember. The boba itself can seem like it doesn’t have too much flavor, but today I don’t mind because the milk tea is flavorful enough. Actually, if you chew it long enough, there’s a subtle sweet flavor, but obviously not everyone is going to do that. It’s super chewy, and the texture, while still chewy, is slightly different than other boba, with a little less bounce, which I actually think is nice. Less mouth work. That’s not a bad thing, just something I noticed that makes it stand out a little. Is that the fresh made boba at work? I don’t know, but it’s overall good. I also love the amount that I got!
