Matcha Lattea – Cherubic Tea

Today I went on a Target errand run for my parents, which means I stocked up on my favorite granola and I can stop by Cherubic Tea (formerly Spiritea) and use my birthday coupon set to expire on Tuesday! Spiritea recently rebranded as Cherubic Tea for some reason, and had a grand re-opening party along with some other deals. Supposedly they were actually going to start to offer real boba, no longer making them a pseudo-boba shop, but only at 3 and 7 pm?? Turns out, I asked the guy who was taking my order because I actually was there at 3, the “Boba Hour” didn’t do so well, so they stopped doing it. Welp. Back to being a fake boba shop.

Anyway, Cherubic Tea is being festive now, offering some new seasonal drinks and cakes. Well, the cakes aren’t technically new, because the flavors are all the same, but just in new festive shapes. Today what caught my eye was the new Matcha Lattea drink, a blended Matcha drink with cloud. The picture had a red foam on top, which is basically just regular cloud foam but dyed red. For festive sake? Plus, it’s probably the only matcha drink on Cherubic’s menu, which is a nice change. I ended up asking for the cloud to be a regular cloud because the red is a little off-putting, and even though the food coloring is safe to consume, I’d figure it’d be safer to go natural white. Plus white would complement the green better for aesthetic sake in my opinion.

It’s basically a glorified matcha smoothie, with a slightly icier texture because I don’t think the base is nearly as milky, which I think is nice because it makes it thick yet light. Matcha flavor is rich and tastes like quality. I also forgot to ask for less sugar, but that’s more in the name of health than flavor. The cloud tastes the same as usual, though I’m still not sure how to mix it in properly, because otherwise, the flavors don’t entirely go that well together.

Details: Matcha Lattea; regular cloud; from Cherubic Tea (Irvine)
