Hokkaido Milk Tea – Sunright Tea Studio

Russian Wednesday takes place at Sunright this week because my birthday coupon expires on Friday. Today we finished the second half of the article about a twelve year old Russian boy who made his own business. Wild.

So in the name of a healthier-ish alternative I was going to get Sunright’s version of the cheese foam on tea, but then since I had a coupon, I thought about it for a bit, and decided to get a slightly more expensive option on the menu. Yes, the Hokkaido milk tea is technically only 20 cents more at its base price, but whatever. Plus I’ve been meaning to try the Hokkaido milk tea for a while anyway, so I was listening to my heart you know? I also say “thought about it”, but I really didn’t have that long since today someone took my order instead of me punching it into the monitor myself. Apparently the birthday coupon is only accessible from the staff end even though it’s supposed to be in my rewards account? It kind of caught me off guard because instead of taking my time to decide, there was a little awkward pause between when I was deciding my drink and I told the staff what I wanted. On the positive end, I did get a receipt today! On the (not really) negative end, I couldn’t input a custom name to get called out…

According to the website, Sunright’s Hokkaido Milk Tea is made using “creamy butterscotch Hokkaido house milk”. What exactly makes a milk Hokkaido milk then if it’s still using house milk? I haven’t had that many Hokkaido milk teas actually, so I was looking forward to trying it. The drink definitely tastes different than their regular milk tea, which also uses Ceylon tea. I don’t know what butterscotch tastes like, but the drink is sweet in a hint of caramel-ly way, and kind of toasty. Not tea toasty like an Oolong, but more creamy toasty. A pleasantly interesting flavor I’d totally get again.

Today they gave a lot of boba, and Sunright usually gives a good amount, but today more so! It was super chewy, a little roasty sweet too. Though, I feel like I drank the drink too fast and had a bunch of boba at the end, haha.

Note: I always get no ice from Sunright, and my friend does too, but for whatever reason she pointed out to me today (because she usually buys her drink beforehand) that they put like two ice cubes in it to keep the drink cold. That sounded a little weird to me since they didn’t do that before, and I think they did to that to mine too. She even specifically asked them to not put in ice because she’s biking home, and they still did, prompting her to ask them to remake it. Guess they didn’t read the special instructions?
