We’ve been kind of using the 7 Leaves (basically) free delivery on the app, and today was supposed to be the last day of the promotion, but for some reason the delivery part of the app hasn’t been working yesterday and today. We even tried our different accounts across different devices too. My mom theorizes that Postmates is losing money so they probably shut down the delivery, but wouldn’t that just mean even less money earned? Welp.
Instead, I had a birthday coupon sitting in my Tastea account that’s going to expire soon, so I figured I should use it! (As a side note, all the coupons did start flooding in recently, and there maybe too many to consume before they expire…I really wish the period to use them was a lot longer, like Coffee Bean does. I guess it beats the one-day only places, like Starbucks though.) Plus, I’ve been interested in trying more of Tastea’s drinks.
Last time, my mom got their rendition of the Tiger Milk Tea, so I kind of wanted to get it this time, but it seems it’s either starting to go out of season or they just didn’t offer it at this location anymore. Which is a little weird, because it doesn’t seem like a seasonal thing, and you just need to add brown sugar syrup to a classic milk tea, so it can’t be an ingredients thing? What caught my eye on the menu was the Matcha Thai Milk Tea. What a combination of two strong flavors! It sounds kind of wrong, but also intriguing if it could be done well. Would it hurt to try?
The picture looks a little more green, but in reality the drink is kind of a muted brown color. I actually don’t know how to describe the taste. It’s definitely not bad, and I wouldn’t mind ordering it again, but I can’t exactly say it tastes like either Matcha or Thai Tea. I guess if I really focused I could make out some remnants of the matcha flavor, but that’s about it. It kind of just tastes like a semi-generic milk tea without actually tasting like a milk tea I’ve had before.
The boba is nicely chewy and a little sweet. The picture doesn’t show it off well, but for festive purposes it’s green and red instead of the usual green! I think Tastea tends to to themed boba for holidays, which makes sense since they already dye their boba.
Details: Matcha Thai Green Milk Tea; with honey boba; 32 oz; non-dairy creamer (default); medium sweet; asked for no ice; from Tastea (Irvine)
