Chamomile – Redstraw Tea Bar

It’s Russian Redstraw Friday! The air outside is definitely a lot better and not smoky at all from the fires nearby earlier this week, which is a great thing. This week we did a reading about football (soccer) in Russia. The joke included in this passage was a lot better than the bear one. Was it funny? Eh. At least. I got the joke though.

I guess Redstraw knew that I haven’t been here for a while, because I got a coupon yesterday along the lines of “We miss you!”. It was one of those “get a cold drink for the price of a hot one”, so I guess I narrowed down my choices for today to drinks that have a hot counterpart. As I try more drinks, the large Redstraw menu is starting to look smaller…but I’m somewhat avoiding their milk teas for now because I feel like their milk teas are ok, and also, I’ve been wanting to try the other non-milk drinks anyway. Perhaps it is time to think about beginning that third of the menu…

Anyway, from the Custom Teas menu I chose the Chamomile. It sounded appealing, and a non-caffeinated drink in the later afternoon is a plus for my sleep schedule. Recently from Redstraw I’ve been doing 50% sugar for most of my Custom Tea drinks, but they sometimes turned out a little syrup-flavor heavy(?) so today I took the leap and decided to be somewhat healthier and get the 25% option. Does this add another factor into the drink? Probably. Is this an experiement blog? No.

I haven’t had Chamomile tea before, and the taste is very interesting. Whereas an Oolong is more floral, the Chamomile tastes almost more flowery or leafy (well duh, it’s tea). It has a lighter flavor which is nice and refreshing, but it’s almost earthy in a way? I would be open to getting it again, but it probably wouldn’t make the list of go-tos. I have a feeling this would also be better at a warmer temperature, but it’s not the weather for that right now. Not a bad drink though! The boba today is pretty good, chewy, but not very sweet in itself.
