Oolong Milk Tea – Sunright Tea Studio

Here’s to another post-workout boba! I’ve been working out in the morning on the weekends recently, but today it was in the afternoon because my mom’s friend (safely) came over to do her hair this morning.

Today I online ordered as usual, and I noticed that Sunright has Thai Tea in their new drinks section (I didn’t end up getting it, but my mom did). As I was ordering the Thai Tea for my mom, she wanted honey boba but it said the honey boba was out of stock, which was a bummer for me since I wanted to try their honey boba for the longest time. Then I order my drink, the Oolong milk tea, and it says the honey boba is available. What the heck? I figured, maybe it just came back in stock, so I tried the Thai Tea customization again, and sure enough, the honey boba, along with a few other toppings, weren’t unavailable but were available for other drinks. What’s with the Thai tea exclusivity? Does Thai tea go well with brown sugar boba but not honey boba? Anyway, when I ordered my Oolong Milk tea with honey boba I prayed that it wasn’t out and that they gave me boba.

The result? I got my honey boba! (Which further weirds me out that my mom couldn’t get honey boba with her Thai tea. I also had a sip of it, and it’s good Thai Tea! She got it at 50% sweetness and it wasn’t sweet at all, which was quite interesting because it still tasted like Thai Tea, just unsweetened.) Sunright’s brown sugar boba is usually pretty good, and the honey boba did not disappoint, so now I have high expectations for Sunright’s boba. Today’s boba is super chewy and bouncy and a really great texture, and has just the right amount of flavor. The honey boba surprisingly has a unique flavor to it too, almost toasty (and dare I say nutty?), in a different way than brown sugar. I think I had sort of low expectations for honey boba since at most places honey boba doesn’t have that much flavor, but Sunright is definitely an exception.

Here’s a flip today, and now the drink. It’s a nice Oolong, and the flavors are nicely balanced, from the tea to the milk (which I’m still interested in the difference between House, Fresh, and Organic milk – does this call for a milk control taste test?!). I’ve come to appreciate Oolong more recently, which is lighter than a regular black tea but still has a nice flavor profile to it. Sunright’s Oolong tastes like a pretty standard Oolong: it’s pretty good, but doesn’t stand out too much.
