Grapefruit Punch – Redstraw Tea Bar

It’s Russian Redstraw Wednesday! Well, Wednesday doesn’t start with an R, but none of the days of the week do… Today we went over daily vocabulary, including meals, clothing, and routine verbs. I was telling my friend how I finally unlocked “girlfriend” on Duolingo after learning “boyfriend” a few lessons ago, and a lady (safely) sitting a few tables away heard the Russian word for “girlfriend” and asked us what we were doing. She was surprised to learn we were learning her language for fun!

As for the drink, today I went for the Grapefruit Punch off the Specialty Menu because I had my last mandatory Zoom call for my summer class at 3, and I didn’t want any custom brewing to take time (even though I ended up getting one for my sister, who didn’t even like it :/). The Grapefruit Punch sounded simple, being just Oolong tea and grapefruit, yet intriguing because I haven’t had grapefruit in a long time and I thought it’d be refreshing.

Overall, it’s a nice drink. The drink itself is pretty citrus-y, and the grapefruit flavor really shines through. I think they also added a lemon slice, which adds to the citrus profile. I don’t think the citrus is particularly overwhelming, but I can’t taste too much of the actual tea, which is kind of disappointing because 1. they advertise as a “special blend” and 2. I’ve been getting into the Oolong flavor recently. There might be a hint of tea flavor in there if I focus and think about it hard enough, but otherwise, not much. The boba is chewy and bouncy, very perfectly round, but not much flavor today.
