Here’s to our weekly Russian session! This week we met up at Lollicup, which understandably took down all of its outside seating, so we did our study session out of the way near the back of this plaza. I’ll make a post on Lollicup as a whole soon, but man, I’ve been coming to this Lollicup since I was little and it’s changed so much over the years. I think this shop is on it’s third or fourth makeover by now, and everything is drastically different, from the interior decorations to the look of the menu! I’m a little sad to see a bunch of things go from this location, and I think they’re definitely updating the whole look to fit in with more boba shops now. Since the Diamond Jamboree one closed, I think this is the only location in Irvine now.
So my go-to from Lollicup has always been the Thai Tea slush, but it’s been taken off the current menu for some reason? My friend said that if they used to make a drink they can probably still make it if you asked, and sure enough I asked for it and the cashier told me they can still make it. Which brings me to ask, why did they take it off? If anything, I always knew Lollicup to have a huge menu (of which drinks are ok). Did they realize it was too huge? Anyway, the current menu also looks real weird too, with the categorizing layout.
Back to the drink. By the time I got to drinking it, it was melting quite a bit already, which just goes to show how hot is it around here (and by proxy, how much a drink is needed). It tastes just how I remember, an icy, slightly artificial Thai tea flavor. I did order half sugar, and even with half sugar, this is still pretty sweet. I really hope it was half sugar. The boba is fairly chewy, and just as always from Lollicup, it’s sweet with that slightly odd flavor to it. A very nostalgic drink.
As a side note, how come the logo is gone from the cup? What’s with the generic cap with some random fruit on it? Where did the ridge-y cup go? Does this mean I’m old now? Even my sister asked where the sun (I say flower) on the cup went.
Details: Thai Tea Slush (not listed on the menu!); Large Size; Half sugar; with Boba; from Lollicup (Irvine)
