Mountain Rock Tea Latte – HNTea

My parents had plans to go to Cream Pan (a local Japanese bakery that rocks), so I asked them to stop by HNTea for a drink. I haven’t had HNTea for a while, and I think I’ve been low-key missing their drinks. I would probably go more often, but the parking there is horrendous and unpredictable. I don’t know what else is in the plaza, so I don’t know who else is taking the little parking they have other than people who want their boba fix. Though, because of quarantine, HNTea is only doing online ordering, so maybe that’ll fix the boba crowd.

Today I opted for a classic black milk tea (as usual), but the Jasmine Green Tea sounded really tempting (to be ordered)! Because I haven’t had HNTea for a bit, I figured I should go basic. Or, I’m pretty sure the Mountain Rock Tea is a black tea. I think there’s another black tea on the menu, but I’ve only ever ordered the Mountain Rock…I think because it’s a recommended? It’s definitely a unique tea flavor, unlike any other teas I’ve had, and it stands out in HNTea’s drink. I opted for 50% sugar as usual, and even though HNTea’s sugar levels are less sweet than the average boba place, the drink was just enough sweet too. Makes you feel healthier, which is on brand?

Hmm, you can’t see the boba well in the picture because it’s covered up by the cup’s fancy design, but for those unfamiliar with HNTea’s boba, they’re super white and circular, almost pearlescent, which would have been super obvious in the unmixed black tea. Boba itself isn’t that sweet, which I didn’t mind too much today. It did need a little chew, but it wasn’t tough.

Did they implement a seal lid recently in the time I haven’t had their drinks? Before when I had HNTea they only had one plastic lid that doubled as a straw and a cheese cap sip lid. This lid was also a little troublesome to penetrate for some reason, but I got through, so no major complaints I guess.

Details: Mountain Rock Tea Latte; Half sugar; with Honey boba; asked for less ice; from HNTea (Tustin)
