My sister graduated middle school yesterday! And we were supposed to get boba to celebrate…but our Ding Tai Fung takeout order took twice as long as expected, so we ended up not getting boba, which leads to today. Man, I must have really wanted that boba because I almost missed both of my photos (that’s why the straw is already in the drink in the photo below, and my manager had to remind me about my boba selfie). That’s a small story for another day, but for now, we all know we’re here for the drink.
Today’s studio of choice is Sunright Tea Studio (the only boba studio I’m aware of), and today’s drink of choice is a classic Boba Milk Tea. I was trying to decide what I wanted, and in the end, since I haven’t had Sunright in a bit, I settled on the basic milk tea with boba. (though, the brown sugar boba technically comes with the drink). Sunright’s black milk tea is specifically Ceylon, if anyone’s curious. There’s another drink on the menu called the Panda Milk Tea (my dad had it today actually) that’s basically the same thing, but it has both brown sugar and honey boba. Supposedly my mom likes the honey boba more, but I have yet to try it, and I hope I do soon! In my experience, brown sugar boba and honey boba are usually offered mutually exclusively, so I don’t really notice a difference in the moment, but I’m looking forward to comparing both boba(s?)* from the same place.
As for my thoughts on today’s drink, I enjoyed having a black tea after not having it for a bit. The tea flavor was light and refreshing, and the milk was rich yet not too creamy. The site (we online ordered) recommended their “house milk”, which is probably the default if you order in person, and they have a ton of alternatives. I’m not sure what what makes a milk a “house milk” though, but I’ve always gone with it and it’s good. The boba itself was the right amount of chew and a little sweet.
I already have my Sunright drink I want to try next planned. Anyone wanna guess? 😀

*Linguist Geek Note: Is boba a count noun? Mass noun? My intuitions tell me mass noun, but I digress. Please feel free to disagree with my intuitions.
