Omomo Matcha – Omomo Tea Shoppe

Ah, a real boba post! So the occasion today was my sister’s graduation Luau…not that I need an occasion to have boba, but having some kind of justification makes me feel better…Anyway, my parents chose a place that my sister could get a drink from (which generally only eliminates a few choices anyway) hence Omomo (more on Omomo itself to come soon!). To be honest, at first I thought they forgot the boba, because I looked on the bottom, but they were more obvious on the sides so my worries went away.

Today, I got the Omomo Matcha, one of their specialties, and I have had this before so I went into the drink knowing what I’m getting. The drink itself is a slushy-type drink, so I didn’t include “no ice” in my order. It’s also listed as a frappe on the website menu description, but frankly, I am not well versed in Western drink terminology enough to know what a frappe is. (Does Starbucks have frappes? I feel like that’s the kind of word I would see on a Starbucks menu. Not that I care what a frappe is either, nor do I care much about Starbucks, but more on my opinion on Starbucks in a later post.)

Tangent aside…the first time I had this drink I liked it very much. Yelp reviews love this drink too. It’s a very good matcha slush-y, and they supposedly add a creme brûlée cream in it, though I can’t really taste it among the matcha in the drink. It probably adds more depth to the flavor maybe? I’m not sure what full sugar would taste like either, since I order half sugar, but my drink is a very nice balance of sweet and matcha bitter. Speaking of bitter, today when I was drinking, I realized I was slurping balls of clumped matcha, and it was after I chewed a bigger one that I realized it was straight up matcha. Now, I like matcha and the flavor a lot, but raw matcha powder is not a pleasant experience. I guess this proves they’re using quality matcha, but I would prefer if the flavor was more spread out…Boba was around good level?

Overall, I also feel like I liked this drink more the first time. I’m not sure if it was because of how my drink today was made or if it was a “Wow!” first impression. Doesn’t mean I didn’t liked today’s though. (The raw matcha didn’t help but I digress.) Oh, and I think this might be one of the more expensive things on the menu, at 5.5, probably because it’s a specialty.

As a sidenote, I’m not a great photographer, but I want to try to put photos of the drinks. I’ll work on it.
